The Map phase shows a graphical depiction of you city-state. The map shows the following figures: the Wall, the Castle, the Plowman, Woolen Mills, Markets, the Palace, and the Cathedral. Press the 'NEXT=>' button to continue to the 'HERALD' phase.
The border around your city-state is the Wall. The Wall shows how much land you own. As your estate grows, the Wall will be drawn farther up and to the left. Should you lose land due to invasion or bankruptcy, the Wall will be drawn to down or to the right.
The Castle is the figure at the top-left corner of the Wall. If you have at least one soldier per 500 hectares, there will be a large Castle. If you have at least one soldier per 1000 hectares, you will have only a small Keep. If you have only a bare wall, you are in real trouble.
The strange looking figure on the right-hand side is the Plowman, which depicts a horse pulling a plow followed by the plowman. If the horse's head is touching the top of the wall, you have enough serfs to farm all of your land -- time to buy more land. If the horse's head is below the wall, you need more serfs -- try releasing more grain than the grain demand. If you are speculating in land, you may not need more serfs.
Figures of Woolen Mills will be added as you buy them. They are located in the lower right-hand corner.
Figure of your Markets will be added as you buy them. They are located on level up from your Woolen Mills touching the left wall.
Additions to your Palace will be added as you buy them. It is built in five increments. If you do not have encugh land to support a palatial life-style, it will grow right through the Wall. You may buy as many additions to your Palace as you wish. You get all the benefits but no more additions are depicted.
Additions ot your Cathedral will be added as you buy them. It is built in six increments. It is located above and to the right of your Palace. You may buy as many additions to your Cathedral as you wish. You get all the benefits but no more additions are depicted.
